What you'll be able to do

The job, done properly.

  • Survey a critical care site against the installation guide and get every gap owned
  • Install and commission with calibrated instruments and produce an IQ/OQ pack a hospital accepts
  • Plan and deliver performance-based customer training with per-person competency sign-off
  • Triage remotely and fix faults first time across the product and the customer's systems
  • Handle complaints, field safety notices and recalls with exact traceability
  • Present value in the buyer's terms with sourced claims, inside tender rules

The story

You are the new field engineer and clinical specialist for critical care at Crescent Medical Distribution, a distributor (fictional) for monitoring and ventilation. Your territory is three Medical City customers: Medical City Hospital, Kirkby Moor Community Hospital and a rural district hospital.

“A field engineer carries three things into every hospital: the product, the evidence and the company's name. Learn the limits of what you may claim before you learn the features.”

Proof

Only evidence counts.

A step is done when there is evidence: a simulation score, a saved work document, a passed check or a signed observation. Opening a page never ticks anything.

  • Before and afterThe same baseline check on day one and in the final week, scored per competency.
  • Mastery, not attendanceEach competency has a mastery threshold. Below it, the track routes you to the named remediation items and a re-check; a week cannot be ticked complete by opening items alone.
  • The audit packYour weekly work documents and capstones, ready for a supervisor, an employer or an inspector.

The certificate

BMEssentia Certificate of Completion: Field Service & Clinical Specialist

It names the track and the level you completed. Your portfolio holds the work behind it.

  • All 10 weeks' required items done at the learner's level
  • At least 8 of 10 competencies mastered
  • Final check at or above the level's pass mark
  • Installation and training observed sign-offs complete
  • Capstone at 3 or above on every criterion, signed off by the manager (institutions) or AI-assisted rubric review (individuals)

Full installation and commissioning pack

For one real or Medical City installation (default: the six ICU bed spaces), produce the complete pack a hospital receives: site survey, installation qualification, operational checks with measured values, electrical safety with calibrated instruments, non-conformances, training record and handover conditions.

Evidence it gives: The document an auditor or a notified body asks for first; supports installation-time and NCR metrics.

A customer training session, delivered and recorded

Design and deliver a customer training session on your product to real clinical staff (or a realistic mock audience for individuals), with performance objectives, hands-on tasks, a check and per-person competency sign-off; record it and evaluate it.

Evidence it gives: Per-person training evidence for the customer's inspection, and use-problem feedback for the manufacturer's quality system.

Field troubleshooting case file

Document one real (or simulation-based) field fault end to end: the call, remote triage, preparation, on-site investigation across the product and the customer's systems, the cause with evidence, the fix and its proof, the records, any complaint or notice raised, and the customer communication.

Evidence it gives: A first-time-fix case with traceable records; feeds the first-time-fix metric.

Three levels

Easy, Medium or Hard.

A baseline check on day one places you, or you choose. The competencies are the same at every level; the support and the pressure change.

Easy

Baseline under 50%, or chosen · simulations at Foundation

For new field engineers: worked examples first, guided simulations at Foundation with the coach on, the extra and Hard-only cases hidden.

Medium

Baseline 50% to 74%, or chosen · simulations at Practitioner

The standard track for engineers with some field experience: Practitioner difficulty, the night-noise, monitoring-upgrade and wrong-bed cases added.

Hard

Baseline 75% and above, or chosen · simulations at Expert

For experienced engineers and specialists: Expert difficulty, every case, strict thresholds, a timed boss week.
