ISO 80601-2-56: clinical thermometers

In plain words

What it covers.

The standard for clinical thermometers for body temperature. The 2017 edition sets a laboratory accuracy of ±0.3 °C within the rated output range (a new edition is in preparation), and the manufacturer must state the clinical accuracy (bias and limits of agreement) from a clinical study. Tympanic and temporal thermometers depend on probe covers and technique; a blackbody or the manufacturer's calibrator is used to check them.
