ACUSON Z6Ms True Volume TEE transducer

The Z6Ms is Siemens Healthineers' volume TEE transducer for the ACUSON SC2000 cardiovascular ultrasound system, used for 4D transoesophageal imaging in theatres and cath labs. Its FDA history names two engineering problems. A flex circuit in the articulating section corroded until Siemens moved to gold plated traces, and SC2000 software could lose trackball control of imaging regions while a TEE probe was in use.

Safety

Safety warnings from the record.

  • A damaged covering on the articulating section of a TEE probe is a patient contact risk, so damaged probes must not be used. Source
  • Losing trackball control of imaging regions during a TEE study can interrupt or prolong the exam; Siemens issued advice on avoiding it until patched. Source

Sources

Where this note comes from.

Not covered: Tip dimensions, shaft length, temperature limits and the probe care manual were not found in an opened official source. The SC2000 page was read through a summarising fetch tool rather than as raw text, so figures should be checked on the page. No error codes are public. The large count of incorrect message reports in MAUDE is not explained in an opened source. Recall text was read through openFDA because FDA recall pages returned errors at drafting time.
