GE Vivid 6VT-D electronic 4D multiplane transoesophageal

The 6VT-D is GE HealthCare's 4D matrix TEE probe for adult cardiac imaging on Vivid cardiovascular ultrasound systems. It gives 2D and real time 3D/4D views of the heart from the oesophagus. The probe holds no software and does not control energy delivery itself. Its risks come from the flexible endoscope shaft, bite damage, articulation and reprocessing, as with all TEE probes.

Safety

Safety warnings from the record.

  • Damage from bites, improper cleaning or immersion is treated by GE as outside normal use, so damaged probes must be withdrawn and assessed. Source
  • The probe was tested for acoustic output, thermal, electrical and mechanical safety; acoustic output indices are shown on the host system per NEMA UD 3. Source

Not covered: Frequency range, tip size, field of view and shaft length are listed in GE tools that could not be read as text, so they are left out. No FDA recall names the 6VT-D. GE's probe care and reprocessing manual and the Vivid service manual were not opened, so leakage test steps and error messages are missing. MAUDE reports are split across several brand spellings (6VT-D, 6VT-D PROBE) and are few.
