Model note · PET/CT

Philips Vereos Digital PET/CT

Vereos is Philips' digital PET/CT. Its PET detector uses Philips' own digital silicon photomultipliers, which count scintillation photons on chip and give one sensor per crystal, and it sits beside an Ingenuity CT gantry. It was among the first fully digital PET systems on the market. Engineers should note its temperature controlled detector tiles, couch drive mechanics and software releases.

Recalls

Known FDA recalls.

  • Z-1988-20212021-05-01

Wear of the CT fluoroscopy monitor bracket shaft could let the monitor detach from its suspension arm.

    FDA record
  • Z-2194-20192019-06-24

Cardiac step and shoot images labelled with phase tolerance when it was not applied.

    FDA record
  • Z-1929-20192019-06-03

Misaligned front and rear covers could leave gaps or protrude into the bore.

    FDA record
  • Z-0302-20192018-09-04

Software 2.0.1 errors affecting 4D CT, PET SUV quantification, image generation and scan range.

Safety

Safety warnings from the record.

  • Software 2.0.1 faults could give incorrect 4D CT images, SUV quantification errors in PET images, or scanning of the wrong body region. Source
  • In cardiac step and shoot scans, images could be labelled as phase tolerance applied when it was not. Source
  • A falling ceiling mounted monitor could seriously injure a patient, operator or service engineer. Source

Not covered: Philips service manuals and error codes are not public, so errorCodes is empty. Performance figures in the Philips overview are the manufacturer's own and predate the 2021 change to detector temperature, so current units may test slightly differently. No bore size, weight or power figures were found in an official source. MAUDE lists only two reports for Vereos, too few for a trend. Recall text was read through openFDA because FDA recall pages returned errors at drafting time.
