Philips IntelliVue MX450 patient monitor

The IntelliVue MX450 is a compact bedside and transport patient monitor for adults, children and neonates, used in ICUs, emergency departments, step down units, sedation areas and NICUs. It runs the standard IntelliVue interface on a 12 inch touchscreen and takes its vital sign measurements from a docked multi-measurement module such as the X3 or MMX, which can be moved with the patient. It has no hard drive and no fan, which Philips presents as an infection control advantage.

Safety

Safety warnings from the record.

  • Some MAUDE reports involve deaths where staff did not hear alarms. In the narratives reviewed, investigators pointed to a module connection problem and a patient no longer connected, so alarm settings and central station connectivity deserve routine checks. Source
  • Without the Full Arrhythmia option the monitor will not give yellow alarms for enhanced arrhythmia detection. Source
  • A disconnected ventilator on an EC10 link may not raise the expected INOP with affected software. Source
  • The monitor is labelled MR Unsafe. Source
