Erbe VIO 300 D Electrosurgical Unit

The VIO 300 D is a modular high frequency generator for monopolar and bipolar cutting and coagulation, widely used in theatres and endoscopy suites. It offers named modes with set effect levels (for example AUTO CUT, SWIFT COAG, ENDO CUT), auto start and auto stop, programmable footswitch assignment and the NESSY neutral electrode monitor. It can drive an Erbe argon plasma coagulation unit and robot vessel sealers.

Safety

Safety warnings from the record.

  • Do not use flammable anaesthetics for head or thorax surgery, and treat oxidising gases and endogenous gases as fire risks. Source
  • Keep the return electrode away from pacemakers, implanted defibrillators and other active implants, and consult the implant maker or responsible department first. Source
  • Never place the return electrode over or near the heart, because of the risk of ventricular fibrillation. Source
  • If the displayed peak voltage exceeds the instrument's rated voltage, choose a lower effect to avoid damaging the instrument. Source
  • MAUDE lists a few fire reports for the brand, so the manual's fire precautions apply to every case; counts are trends only. Source

Where this note comes from.

Not covered: The manual used is a third party hosted copy of a 2009 Erbe user manual; codes and limits may differ by software version, and the service manual error families were not opened. No FDA recall names the VIO 300 D itself; the two recalls that mention it concern Intuitive's EndoWrist One Vessel Sealer, a different product, and Erbe's own recalls cover cryo and irrigation products. Most MAUDE reports for the brand carry no specific problem code.
