ZOLL R Series

The ZOLL R Series is a hospital defibrillator and monitor used on crash carts and for in-hospital transport, offering manual and AED defibrillation, transcutaneous pacing and optional SpO2, NIBP and EtCO2. It uses ZOLL's rectilinear biphasic waveform up to 200 J and is known for its Code Readiness self-check and Real CPR Help feedback through OneStep electrodes.

Recalls

Known FDA recalls.

  • Z-2315-20092009-08-31

Device could fail to display ECG, which could delay defibrillation or pacing.

    FDA record
  • Z-0977-20182017-08-04

Part of one lot of OneStep CPR Complete adult electrodes caused the R Series to deliver paediatric energy levels.

Safety

Safety warnings from the record.

  • For children under 8 years or under 25 kg, use ZOLL paediatric defibrillation electrodes, but do not delay therapy to establish exact age or weight. Source
  • Prolonged pacing over 30 minutes, especially in neonates, can cause burns; inspect the skin under the electrodes periodically. Source
  • In manual mode a charge is internally dumped after 60 seconds, and changing energy during charge also discharges it internally. Source
  • Bedside or central monitors may show erratic ECG while the R Series is pacing, because pacer pulses overload their inputs; monitor ECG on the R Series during pacing. Source
  • Active electrosurgical equipment can cause CHECK PADS messages; check it is off when troubleshooting pad faults. Source
  • Do not place the unit in service if the Code Readiness indicator shows a red X, and do not touch connected paddles, electrodes or the OneStep connector while a readiness test is running. Source
