Welch Allyn SureTemp Plus 690
The SureTemp Plus 690 is a handheld electronic thermistor thermometer for oral, axillary and rectal temperatures in adults, children and newborns, widely used on hospital wards and in clinics. It predicts a final reading in seconds by heating the probe tip close to body temperature, and uses colour coded swappable probes and probe wells, blue for oral and axillary and red for rectal, to keep sites separate. It runs on three AA cells and shares single use probe covers with other Welch Allyn thermistor thermometers.

Safety
Safety warnings from the record.
- Always use a new Welch Allyn single use probe cover; without one, the heated probe can cause discomfort, cross contamination and wrong readings. Source
- Use blue probes and wells only for oral and axillary sites and red only for rectal; using the wrong probe gives temperature errors. Source
- Insert rectal probes only about 1.5 cm in adults and about 1 cm in children to avoid bowel perforation. Source
- Do not monitor continuously for more than 10 minutes in any mode. Source
- Remove a dropped or damaged probe from use until qualified service staff have inspected it. Source
- Use only AA 1.5 V alkaline batteries; other types could damage the thermometer. Source

Not covered: MAUDE data specific to the standalone thermometer is very thin; fire and sparking reports found under the SureTemp name belong to Connex Spot monitors with a SureTemp module and are excluded. The E code table in the service manual is laid out in columns, so the code to description pairing was reconstructed by order and should be checked against the printed manual.
