Exergen TemporalScanner TAT-5000 / TAT-5000S Temporal Artery Thermometer

The TAT-5000S is a professional non contact infrared thermometer that is swept across the forehead over the temporal artery. It captures the peak of many readings and applies an arterial heat balance model, using ambient temperature, to compute a core temperature. It runs on a single 9 V alkaline battery, self calibrates at each power up and is built with a sealed sensor and alloy head for heavy hospital use.

Not covered: The manual used is for the current TAT-5000S, the successor of the original TAT-5000; older units may differ. The K011291 summary PDF could not be read and Exergen's 510(k) record may not cover the TAT-5000S specifically. openFDA has no Exergen recalls, and a MAUDE search on the brand name 'TAT-5000' returned unrelated devices, so no trend is given.
