Siemens MAGNETOM Aera 1.5T

MAGNETOM Aera is Siemens Healthineers' 70 cm open bore 1.5 tesla whole body MRI scanner, first cleared in the US in 2010 alongside the 3 tesla MAGNETOM Skyra. It runs the syngo MR software line and is one of the most common 1.5T systems in hospital radiology. Service work centres on the superconducting magnet and its quench vent, the gradient chain, RF coils and the removable patient table.

Safety

Safety warnings from the record.

  • MR scanning has not been established as safe for fetuses and infants under two years, according to Siemens' product information. Source
  • If gradient output supervision is off, outputs can exceed IEC 60601-2-33 limits and peripheral nerve stimulation can occur. Source
  • Ferromagnetic parts near the bore, even inside table covers, can be attracted to the magnet. Source
  • The optional Combi dockable neurosurgery table had a rare risk of sudden drop in height. Source

Sources

Where this note comes from.

Not covered: Siemens service documentation, event log codes and coil part numbers are restricted to its service portal, so no error codes are given. Power, cooling and helium volume figures were not found in a public official source. The product page is the source for hardware figures and may describe the current configuration rather than early installs. MAUDE counts are very low and not a failure rate.
