Philips Ingenia 1.5T

The Philips Ingenia 1.5T is a 70 cm wide-bore superconducting MR scanner used for general clinical imaging in hospitals and imaging centres. Its distinctive feature is dStream, where the analogue-to-digital converter sits inside the receive coil so the signal travels digitally to the reconstructor. It also uses Philips HeliumSave technology, rated for zero helium boil-off during normal scanning.

Safety

Safety warnings from the record.

  • Gradient coil failures can produce smoke or fire. Philips advises stopping all scanning, including phantom scans, until service releases an affected system showing the warning signs. Source
  • In a developing fire the hospital procedure may include switching off the whole system or using the Emergency Magnet Off button to remove the field. Source
  • RF heating has caused skin reddening in some larger patients when the torso lies inside the body coil. Source
  • A trolley accessory was supplied with magnetic wheels that can be pulled towards the magnet, a reminder to check every item entering the scan room. Source
  • A wrongly rated pressure relief valve fitted to some magnets could release helium gas and cause injury. Source
