NIDEK GYC-500 / GYC-500 Vixi green

The GYC-500 is NIDEK's compact 532 nm green photocoagulator for retinal and macular treatment, iridotomy and trabeculoplasty. A diode pumped solid state laser in a small console feeds a fibre to a slit lamp, indirect ophthalmoscope, endophotocoagulation or YAG combination delivery unit. With a scan delivery unit it becomes the GYC-500 Vixi, which fires preset multi spot patterns and can step automatically to the next treatment region.

Safety

Safety warnings from the record.

  • Laser emission only occurs in READY status with the footswitch pressed; keep the system in standby when not aiming. Source
  • The combination delivery unit shares one slit lamp between the green laser and an Nd:YAG laser; confirm the beam selector before firing. Source
  • The international brochure is for non US practitioners and specifications may vary by country. Source

Not covered: No public operator or service manual was found, so error messages, calibration of output power and maintenance intervals are missing. No FDA recall or MAUDE record was found for the GYC-500; recalls on the older GYC-1000 and MC-500 were left out as different models. Laser class is not stated in the documents opened.
