GE Giraffe OmniBed Carestation CS1

The Giraffe OmniBed Carestation is a neonatal intensive care bed that works as a closed incubator or, with the canopy raised, as an open radiant warmer, so a sick or premature baby can move between the two without being transferred. It is used in NICUs and has servo controlled air and skin temperature, optional servo humidity and servo oxygen, an in bed scale and a 360 degree rotating mattress.

Safety

Safety warnings from the record.

  • Use Baby Mode unless Manual Mode is prescribed, and confirm temperature with an independent thermometer as well as the skin probe. Source
  • Never place a patient in the bed during Warmup mode, because the Check Baby alarm is disabled. Source
  • Use only GE approved skin temperature probes and never reuse a disposable probe. Source
  • Unlatched panels or portholes, or a loose canopy or soffit fastener, can lead to an infant fall or a part dropping into the patient compartment. Source
  • With the servo oxygen module, delivered oxygen could differ from the displayed level on affected units. Source
  • New units could release formaldehyde early in life; GE advised running them for a week to off gas. Source
