GE Discovery NM/CT 670 SPECT/CT

Discovery NM/CT 670 is GE HealthCare's dual head SPECT/CT, first cleared in 2009. It puts two detector heads on a new nuclear medicine gantry and adds a 16 slice CT taken from the BrightSpeed line, with one shared patient table. Later variants (Pro, ES, DR and a CZT version) belong to GE's 600/800 series. FDA records show the main field risk is the heavy detector and its mounting: loose fasteners, bearing screws and transport loads.

Recalls

Known FDA recalls.

  • Z-0891-20252024-12-18

Systems moved without proper detector support could overload detector mounts, risking a detector fall.

    FDA record
  • Z-0857-20212020-12-10

Loose rotor bearing screws released one of four rotor bearings in a detector.

    FDA record
  • Z-1259-20192019-03-20

Detector screws not secured correctly at installation, losing one mounting redundancy.

    FDA record
  • Z-0608-20192018-05-24

Main disconnect and EPO buttons might not cut all system power due to installation wiring.

    FDA record
  • Z-0186-20152014-10-14

Loose camera to gantry fasteners could let part of the system fall onto the patient.

    FDA record
  • Z-1792-20132013-06-13

Recall of several GE nuclear medicine systems after a fatal injury on an Infinia Hawkeye 4.

Safety

Safety warnings from the record.

  • A detector fall can cause life threatening injury; GE recalls in 2022 and 2024 addressed mitigations and transport loads for this risk. Source
  • GE recalled several nuclear medicine systems, including the 670, after a patient died from injuries on a related Infinia Hawkeye 4 camera. Source
  • In pulmonary SPECT protocols with many angular steps, a detector could contact a patient's elbow. Source
  • Incorrect EPO wiring could leave parts of the system live after an emergency stop. Source

Not covered: GE's product page for this model was not found, and its site planning drawings returned server errors, so detector size, crystal, resolution, power and weight figures are missing. Later variants may use a different 16 slice CT than the BrightSpeed Elite named in the 2009 clearance; this was not confirmed. Service manuals and error codes are not public, so errorCodes is empty. Recall text was read through openFDA because FDA recall pages returned errors at drafting time.
