Learn

How to learn medical devices.

Learn every device the same way: one structure from physics to ethics, then the device in 3D, then how it fails, how it is checked and how it is used under pressure.

The method

Six steps that work for any device.

  1. Learn one structure for every device

Read every device in the same order, so nothing is skipped and every device can be compared with every other. Learn to read one and you can read them all.

  2. Start from the physics and the physiology

A device makes sense once you know the physical principle it depends on and the part of the body it measures, supports or treats.

  3. Open the device in 3D

Take it apart, part by part, and see what each one does. In Medical City you walk up to a device, press E and it opens in the Device Lab.

  4. Learn how it fails

Start with the symptom: what to check, in what order, what is causing it and how to put it right. Then read the most reported problems and the recalls for that device.

  5. Learn the checks

Planned maintenance, electrical safety and performance tests, each with its pass limit. See medical device maintenance basics.

  6. Practise under pressure, then test yourself

Work through realistic cases at rising levels, then answer practice questions to find out where you are strong and where you are not.

One structure

The 13 sections, in order.

  1. 01Overview
  2. 02Operations
  3. 03Importance
  4. 04Physics
  5. 05Features
  6. 06Applications
  7. 07Physiology
  8. 08Safety
  9. 09Advancements
  10. 10In Research
  11. 11Logistics
  12. 12Alternatives
  13. 13Ethical

Every device in the BMEssentia Device Library follows this structure, from the physics inside it to the ethics around it. What each section covers.

Where to start

Start with the devices you will meet first.

Each link opens the device on ai.bmessentia.com: how it works, part by part, its fault cases, checks and FDA recalls.

With BMEssentia

Each step has a place to do it.

  • The Device Library on the Platform: 69 devices, 13 sections each, illustrated at every step.
  • The Device Lab in Medical City: all 69 devices in interactive 3D, each with its own hands-on curriculum.
  • RESOLVE on the Platform: from alarm to answer, for every one of the 69 devices.
  • 12 simulations in Medical City: 511 challenges, each at Foundation, Practitioner and Expert level.
  • 13,000+ practice questions across every device and course.
  • Essentia: the Explain, Teach me and Practise studios, with answers from named sources.
