Medtronic ManoScan ESO high resolution manometry system

ManoScan ESO is a high resolution oesophageal manometry system used in GI physiology labs to measure the pressure and motor function of the oesophagus and its sphincters, for example in dysphagia, achalasia and pre-operative reflux work up. A solid state catheter with 36 circumferential sensors builds a continuous pressure topography map, which ManoView software analyses against the Chicago Classification.

Safety

Safety warnings from the record.

  • Catheters have become stuck in the nose or oesophagus after studies, sometimes needing sedation or ENT and endoscopic removal and causing nasal trauma. Source
  • Several disinfectants, including Rapicide, Sterilox, hydrogen peroxide and Sporox, are not approved and may damage the catheter or change its performance. Source
  • Wrong timing of thermal compensation can move IRP across the 15 mmHg threshold and change the diagnosis in some studies. Source
