Laborie (formerly MMS) Solar GI high resolution manometry system

Solar GI is a modular gastrointestinal motility system first developed by Medical Measurement Systems (MMS) in the Netherlands and now sold by Laborie. One base unit can run solid state or water perfused catheters for high resolution oesophageal, pharyngeal, antroduodenal, colonic and anorectal studies, with options for impedance, EMG and air charged catheters. Water perfused versions use a pneumatic perfusion pump (MPP Plus) that pushes distilled or demineralised water through multi lumen catheters. The software applies Chicago Classification 4.0 and shows 3D pressure topography.

Recalls

Known FDA recalls.

  • Z-2669-20262026-05-21

Water perfusion Solar GI systems (G3-6, G3-7, G3-8, G3-12, G3-14): moisture can collect in internal tubing, filter and sensors and affect pressure readings; IFU updated with a blow-out procedure.

Safety

Safety warnings from the record.

  • Water in the air compressor can make the system show less fluid than is actually delivered; excess water can cause water intoxication and seizures. Source
  • A 2022 event involved a 6 year old whose sodium fell from 138 to 125 mmol/L during a long perfused study, followed by a seizure; Laborie describes this risk as remote. Source
  • Moisture build up in water perfused systems can affect pressure measurement if not removed, so the blow-out step is part of routine maintenance. Source
  • Only designated catheters and accessories may be used for each area of the GI tract. Source

Not covered: The Solar GI IFU and service manual were not found publicly, so there are no error codes, part numbers, calibration tolerances or the text of the new blow-out procedure; first checks point to the IFU rather than repeat it. FDA summaries for the Solar GI clearances are letters and indications only, with no specification tables. Base unit dimensions, weight and electrical class were not found. MAUDE has under 10 Solar GI reports, so they show where issues cluster (the perfusion pump) rather than how often they happen.
