Draeger BiliLux LED Phototherapy Light

BiliLux is an overhead LED phototherapy light for neonatal unconjugated hyperbilirubinaemia in babies up to 3 months and under 10 kg. Twenty blue LEDs deliver 460 to 490 nm light at five intensity levels, and two white LEDs give an examination light. It sits on an incubator hood or on a spring arm and trolley, and an optional radiometer checks irradiance.

Safety

Safety warnings from the record.

  • Only for babies up to 3 months old and under 10 kg, under healthcare professional supervision. Source
  • A light falling from its mount onto an incubator or infant is the main reported hazard, so secure mounting matters. Source
  • Irradiance drops sharply with distance (85.5 at 30 cm to 33.4 at 50 cm), so moving the light changes the dose. Source

Not covered: Draeger's website and IFU refused automated access, so no error messages, cleaning agents or part details are included. The only Draeger phototherapy recall in openFDA covers the older PT 4000, not BiliLux. The summary prints irradiance in W/cm2/nm, which is taken here as microwatts per cm2 per nm, the usual unit; a reviewer should confirm.
