Natus Viking EMG on the Nicolet EDX platform

Viking is Natus' long running electrodiagnostic line, now sold as the Nicolet EDX system, used in neurophysiology and neuromuscular clinics for nerve conduction studies, needle EMG and evoked potentials, and in theatres for intraoperative monitoring. The platform pairs a base console with built in electrical and auditory stimulators, a 2 or 8 channel isolated amplifier and a PC running the Natus software, which handles tests such as F waves, H reflexes, single fibre EMG and repetitive nerve stimulation.

Safety

Safety warnings from the record.

  • Labelling limits use in the presence of flammable anaesthetics and with defibrillation equipment. Source
  • Patients have been burned at stimulating or needle electrode sites, including during single fibre EMG and during long procedures with electrosurgery. Source
  • The electrical stimulator output reaches 100 mA in constant current mode or 400 V in constant voltage mode, so output settings carry real burn and discomfort risk. Source
  • The system gives no diagnostic conclusion and is for qualified healthcare providers only. Source
